Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the Lafayette Music League?
A: LML is a collective of local music supporters (including musicians, promoters, venue owners, & fans) with the common goal of bringing attention to the region's many diverse bands & musicians, increasing exposure, creating opportunities, and developing a unified music scene.Q: How do I join LML?
A: There is no actual "joining", as there is no official membership. The LML welcomes all who share the goal of promoting the Greater Lafayette music scene. To be part of LML, all one has to do is participate (i.e. participating on the message board, posting shows on the calendar, attending shows, spreading the word).Q: Is LML trying to unionize local music?
A: No. While we promote a *unified* music scene, this does not mean we want to unionize it. In fact, we encourage bands & venues to step up to the plate, spread their wings, and do their own thing. That is the ultimate goal for the LML, to help foster a growing music community. By "unifying" the scene, we mean to encourage networking within the scene, and general support for each other. The LML helps in this process by providing a central location on the internet where local musicians can converge to share ideas, discuss issues, get to know each other, promote their projects, find new band members, find music-friendly venues, and general advice.Q: What's the point of the monthly LML events?
A: A major part of our mission is to create awareness of local music within the Greater Lafayette community. With the LML receiving more and more attention from local media, being a member organization of Tippecanoe Arts Federation, and becoming a nonprofit organization, the community is taking notice. Our monthly events strive to show the diversity of music available within our scene. We realize there is still more work to be done to truly achieve that goal, it is a constant process.Q: What are the monthly LML events?
A:
- STRANGE BREW @ Lafayette Brewing Co.
Generally held the 3rd Saturday of the month, this is the most diverse of our monthly shows. Music featured ranges from country to hip-hop, indie rock to surf rock, and a little of everything in between, often on the same night. Show time 9:30pm.
- HARDnHEAVY @ Jerilee's Pub
Taking place on the last Saturday of the month, this show is for the more extreme rock enthusiast. Shows feature all variations of metal, hard rock, and anything that can be considered "heavy music". Show time 9:30pm.
Q: How do I get booked for an LML event?
A: Each event is currently handled by a different member of the LML council, visit LML Events for details.Q: Who are the LML council members?
A: Mark Slone, Scott Gilkey, Noah Mueller, Brad Wendel, Richard HuffQ: Will the LML help with my community project/show?
A: Possibly. E-mail us and let us know what your plans are. We've already got some community projects in the works, and are happy to be involved where we can be. If we can't be directly involved, you are still welcome to use the resources on this website to promote your event, and can reserve the LML banner.Q: What is an "LSO"?
A: LSO simply stands for "Local Scene Outing". It's a chance for people within the scene to get together in an informal atmosphere to meet & greet, chat about the scene in general, talk about gear, and pretty much anything a bunch of musician types might discuss. Held every Tuesday around 9pm at a location that changes each month.
